Information and Resources

Workbooks

As we spend more and more time using digital tools, it is more important than ever to make space for the analogue and the tangible. For this reason, it is recommended to physically print the new workbooks (one for each part) that have been added to the training in the 2022 update. These are concise, information-dense complements to the videos. The structure is simple: one spread per lesson. As you finish each video, mark it off in the workbook.

You should have received the link to download the workbook(s) when you first registered, and the download link for each can also be found at the top of each part.

Intimacy with Technology

How to protect your eyes and nervous system as you work through this training:

  • aim to watch during the day, rather than right before bed, so it doesn’t confuse your circadian rhythms too much

  • use “after dark” or similar settings that give a yellow tint to the screen, and set this to be on 24-7 (can switch off for movies / photo work)

  • install an app like f.lux (free) or even better, Iris (this has a one-off price, get 10% off here) that can reduce blue light and flicker from your screen

  • if you notice any sensitivity in the eyes, you might like to try blue light blocking glasses while watching

  • for the most part, aim to avoid looking at the screen while practicing, and aim to transition from practicing with a video, to practicing without as soon as is possible.

  • aim for soft orangey or reddish lights after dark, with no bright overhead lights especially while practicing and lying on the back.

  • there is nothing wrong with putting on some music during a practice (indeed many of the practices in this training are graced with music from Bruce and Joanna), but please practice without it sometimes, to make sure the nervous system is not using it for stimulation / distraction from oneself.

  • choose intelligently when to do different practices: most of the longer, more energetic practices will be best in the morning or daytime, and may interfere with sleep if they are done in the evening.

We also send out a reminder in the newsletter twice a month — register below to receive this here if you don’t already:

[NB if you have already registered and don’t seem to receive the newsletter, check junk and spam folders or add “newsletter@heartofyoga.com” to your address book]

Optional weekly support classes for teachers / student teachers

As well as the monthly gatherings, Mark hosts two classes in the studio each week specifically designed as mentoring and support for teachers. You can see your local times for these in the Studio, on the timetable, and can register here as well to get the link(s) each week.

You will find a changing flow of extraordinary people making a difference in their own lives and in their communities… sharing the ancient technology of Yoga.

Other learning options

You may wish to complement this learning with a retreat or training in person, with online regular classes, or with the 6-month guided zoom-call based teacher training (for those who learn better in this style). For more information on these options have a look on the heart of yoga website: www.heartofyoga.com

Certification

On completion of all three parts, the Reflections, and the workbooks, please write to studio@heartofyoga.com to receive your certificate, if you would like, with your completion date and full name as you would like it on your certificate. This will be made in digital form for you to print.
